Hunting Together RPG Gear Crafting: Creating Gear or Upgrading at the Blacksmith?
Hunting Together RPG gear crafting means upgrading the items you already own at the Blacksmith: 100% success through level 4, failure risk from level 5, and what Protect Stones protect.
In a mid-to-late-game Hunting Together RPG session recorded shortly before a dungeon update, "crafting gear" meant upgrading equipment the player already owned at the Blacksmith — not creating new items. The creator had never crafted gear before that session, and his whole gear routine was to walk up to the Blacksmith, click to talk, and improve the items he was already wearing.
The essentials before you start:
- Where the work happens: the Blacksmith. If you do not have premium, walk up to it and click to talk.
- What gets the upgrades: gear you already own. The session applied upgrades directly to existing items.
- Guaranteed range: upgrade levels 1 through 4 were shown at 100% success.
- Risk from level 5: attempts start to fail, and a failed attempt sends the upgrade level backward — the creator's item fell to +4.
- Protection: a Protect Stone keeps the item protected on a failed attempt.
- Cost: a roughly 20 million currency budget did not take the creator far.
What "crafting gear" actually means here
The wording is what makes the question confusing. The creator opened by saying he had not crafted any gear at all, and that with the game in its mid-to-late stage most players had probably farmed enough items to craft theirs. What he then did was not assemble a new weapon or armor piece from parts. He described crafting as working on the items he already had, and his stated goal for the session was to upgrade items with a currency budget.
So in this account the two halves of the question come together: the action called crafting is the Blacksmith upgrade. You improve gear you already own rather than building a new piece from scratch. If you were expecting a recipe-and-materials system that produces brand-new equipment, what he describes is a different action — and it is the meaning to check first when another player tells you to craft your gear.
Upgrading a piece of gear at the Blacksmith
- Pick the piece you want to improve. In the session, upgrades went onto items the player already had rather than onto newly made gear.
- Have currency available. The creator's session ran on a budget of roughly 20 million currency.
- Reach the Blacksmith. If you do not have premium, walk up to the Blacksmith and click to talk. That is the access route the creator described.
- Apply the upgrade to the item and watch the result. Upgrades 1 through 4 succeeded at 100%, so those early attempts carried no failure risk.
- Treat attempts from level 5 as risky. A failed attempt drops the item's upgrade level, and a Protect Stone keeps the item protected when that happens.
The first four upgrades are guaranteed; level 5 changes the math
Through the first four upgrades the chance stayed at 100% in the session, and the creator's guidance was simply to go for it. At level 5 the odds stop being certain, and at the higher steps he found the attempts failing often.
The consequence is what matters. A failed attempt does not just waste the try: it lowers the item's upgrade level, and the creator demonstrated exactly that when an unprotected attempt sent a piece back to +4. A Protect Stone keeps the item protected on a failed attempt, so the choice between using one and gambling is really a choice about how much progress you are willing to lose. Partway through the session the creator decided he did need to care about that and switched to protecting his attempts.
What a 20 million currency budget actually covers
Cost is the part that is easiest to underestimate. The creator spent the session upgrading items on a roughly 20 million currency budget, and his conclusion at the end was that the amount does not get a player far — you still have to farm for a long time to get strong.
Keep the condition attached to that: it is one player's session and experience at the time of the video, not a price list for a given upgrade level and not a projection of what your own budget will buy. What it does show is the shape of the expense. Upgrade attempts consume currency as you push upward, and a sum that looks large at the start can be gone before the gear reaches the levels you were aiming at. If currency is the bottleneck, the gold farming guide is the related problem to work on.
Which gear deserves the upgrades
Upgrading the wrong piece wastes both the attempts and the currency. The creator flagged one concrete case from his own session: HP-boost gear was not good, and he needed to wear main-stat gear instead. He also noted that he was not yet level 99 at the time, which is why the switch had not happened yet.
The condition matters — this was his class and stat build, below level 99, not a universal verdict that HP has no place in every build. What it does give you is a direction: put upgrade work into the pieces that carry your main stat rather than HP-focused gear, and check your build before sinking a budget into a piece you expect to replace. The stats and builds guide and the equipment guide cover that wider context.
The set you upgrade now may not be the set you keep
The creator also expected that better armor sets might be added in the future, which would mean doing the gear work all over again. That was his expectation at the time, before the dungeon update — not an announced plan or a schedule. It is still a useful way to read a long upgrade session: the currency goes into the item you have now, and a new tier of gear restarts the climb. That is a reason to put upgrades into the gear you will actually use in the near term rather than treating any single piece as permanent. For how gear is organized across tiers, see the equipment tiers page.
